CC SRTS Survey and Hand Tally Data Report - 2024
Summary
The Culver City Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program aims to make school zones safer and encourage families to choose walking, biking, carpooling, or public transit over driving.
The CCRTS Parent Survey aims to better understand students’ school commuting habits by gathering parents’ insights on transportation choices, barriers to walking, biking, or using public transit, and perceptions of safety and local infrastructure.
The CCRTS Student Hand Tally complements this by capturing how students themselves travel to school, providing a clear picture from the student perspective.
The Parent Travel Survey method suggests an average of 63% of students using a mode other than driven by a parent to get to/from school.
The Hand Tally method suggests roughly 44% of students use a mode other than driven by a parent to get to/from school.
Method
For the Parent Travel Survey, parents were asked to complete one survey per school their children attend. If more than one child attends the same school, the parent was asked to fill out the survey for the oldest child. If they had multiple children at different schools, parents were asked to complete one survey for each child, but still only one per school.
The Student Hand Tally was conducted on two of the following days: Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Counts were not conducted on Mondays or Fridays. Teachers submitted this form once for each day, for a total of two submissions. Student participants responded to survey questions proctored by their teacher through raising their hands for each question.
