Elenda Earth Day Celebration
In celebration of Earth Day, Elenda Street will be closed to cars!
Tuesday, April 22, 7 am – 9 am
For one morning, CCUSD students at Farragut Elementary, CCMS, CCHS and Culver Park High will experience a car free route to school.
This two hour, open streets event will allow for kids to have one day with a car free route to school along CCUSD’s busiest school commute corridor. The event will also broaden conversations on safety, transportation and environmental issues. Parents are encouraged to park and walk with their students 3 blocks from their campus, or drop their students along Huron, Coombs, the parking lot at Culver/Elenda or at the pedestrian bridge, North of Ballona Creek
This will be a great time for the schools to collaborate on Earth Day celebrations and join in their message that less cars is better for students, the community and the planet.
Details will be updated as they become available.
Key points (subject to change):
- Elenda will be closed from Culver Blvd. to Farragut.
- The current plan is to close the side streets at the allies on either side of Elenda.
- We recommend that parents drop their kids at any of the intersections along Huron, Harter or Coombs or the parking lot along Culver Blvd from Elenda to Coombs, or at the pedestrian bridge North of Ballona Creek and allow them to walk the few blocks to school.
- The allies will be accessible for NORTHBOUND Traffic only.
- Many streets will have turn restrictions. Please plan ahead.
- Alternative drop sites include:
— The paddle tennis/Wende Museum parking lot (note, exiting will only allow for EAST/NORTHBound use of Culver Blvd.
— Coombs (East of Elenda)
— Huron (West of Elenda)– Overland Blvd.
— The pedestrian bridge South of Ballona Creek
